We walked the short way to our early booking at the nature information centre run by the government. We saw some nice buildings on the way.

We were taken through a series of multimedia presentations about the area and animals – and how to reduce your impact on the park. We were given audio guides in English that replicated what was being said in Polish. 

We then walked back to the campsite via the ski jumps. To our surprise they were currently operating and lots of people were skiing down a shiny metal track and it looked like landing on a green artificial grass surface. In real life it looks amazingly dangerous. There were a couple of ski jumps being used. 

We then found a spot for coffee and cake nearby – it took some time as we need to make sure that the coffee machine is up to scratch to make a good coffee. 

After getting back to the campsite we got going on our 1.5 hour drive to Dunajec Gorge.

We soon arrived at the Polana Sosna campsite next to a dam on the Dunajec river.

After getting settled in we set off on a cycle ride down our side of the river to Slovakia. Sean and Glenn with his new jacket looked like a team.

We went through the old border post looking very imposing but old and rusty. We went into town to see it looking much more run down and communist looking than Poland. The road  went down the river to the 14th century Red Monastery. There is a story about a flying monk coming from here who had created a flying machine from wood, material and feathers. He had launched off the tallest hill nearby and flown down to the abbey. Who knows if it was true. 

The monastery which was now closed. We could get into the courtyard and take a few photos.

They brew their own beer here – but the shop was also closed. 

We then headed back to a bar to have a Slovakian beer and mulled wine before crossing the river on a pedestrian bridge back to Poland. 

We then cycled back and it was getting dark. Glenn had no lights so we put him in the middle. He did keep managing to evade us and got told off. There was no way a car could see him. 

When we got back to the vans about 8pm I did a quick cook up of chicken red curry. We were soon fed and in our beds as we have an early start tomorrow to go traditional rafting.
