We got to train station – the boys were going to a different location so Glenn needed a different ticket. It took half an hour to get the ticket app loaded and ticket purchased on his phone.
We eventually got on a train. Lisa and I peeled off to go to the National Poland museum which is an art gallery.
Once we got there we had to find coffee. We found it in a spot next door to the gallery – with deck chairs. We also shared a lovely lemon cheesecake. Now fortified we then went to see the art.
The first gallery was Polish design. It started in Zakopane on the design of wooden houses and folk art that we had seen.

There were a lot of ceramics.

It developed into more modern things.

We then went to see the 20th century art. It was interesting to see some polish painters that I didn’t know.

We then poked our nose in the Faras gallery – and were hugely surprised. It was full of 9th century Nubian art found in an archeological excavation in the 1960s before the Aswan dam was flooded. The friezes had been in a 9th century cathedral. It was amazing.

We then went to meet the boys at one of the ghetto wall locations. It was a large area so we came across many of these at different points.

Next was the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. But first we found an impressive fountain next to it. The dolphin statuettes are the same as the one in the museum.

The tomb of the unknown soldier is important to Poles as it was set up in 1918 when they regained their independence.

They had an interesting marching style.
The tomb area had been a large double level arcade before WWII. It’s now a few arches with the remains of the columns on the roof.

After that we went off to the university library rooftop garden with a snack – once we found it after a diversion. It was a good viewpoint and nice to have a rest.

We then went home via the metro – after a turn around when we found we could connect to a train directly to our campsite train station.
We did the usual last 900m trudge home up the side of the train tracks.
Dinner was tacos in our dining shed with rain coming down. It was still quite warm in there.
Then it was off to bed for a good sleep.
