We woke up to consistent rain and lots of clouds so it wasn’t a day for birdwatching

I had to get tax figures to my accountant so sat with my coffee doing that. It felt like the strangest place to be getting serious accounts figures together – but very pleasant.

Soon I was finished and we drove north to Rowy on the Baltic  coast. It was a beachside holiday resort with lots of hotels, stalls, restaurants and fun parks – but no tourists. It looked sad and dreary.

We went to the beach which had lovely white fine sand. There were deer prints in the sand.

We looked for amber and found a couple of possible pieces. Glenn then did his best to get into the sea but it was so rainy and cold this is the best he could do. We ran back to the car before we got soaked by another shower.

We then started driving south towards Bydgoszcz in the middle of Poland.

We saw a Lidl and Glenn popped in to see if he could buy any more car trim removal kits that are on special this week in the centre aisle. He was happy to find a few so he bought a couple.

We then continued in grayish weather, stopping in a forest carpark for lunch. There were many mushroom pickers out. We have seen them everywhere.

We continued through some very rough roadworks. They don’t make it easy here in Poland while work is going on.

Eventually we were at Bydgoszcz in a carpark near the centre that is good for an overnight stay.

We went for a short walk to check out the old town going onto the mill island where old buildings have been restored very nicely into theatres and restaurants.

We then went to the old square where thete is a large monument dedicated to the people who were executed here in the square by the Nazis. Around 20,000 people were killed in this town over a short period.

We then stopped for a beer in the pub next to the river. It’s an Irish and darts pub and there were a lot of games going on.

We managed to find a local beer and sat outside beside the river. After talking to a few locals having a smoke we went back to the van to eat last nights leftovers. We then went to bed pretty soon afterwards with the noise of screeching tires of the youngsters in the nearby multistory carpark. We didn’t hear much of them once our heads hit the pillow.
