We are enjoying a lovely time in Wellington, Somerset being looked after very well by my brother Grant and sister in law Anne. My mum is down here from Scotland for a family get together. We have had nice sunny days and lovely dinners.
However we have been busy sorting out Gus the motorhome who has had many new parts fitted :
- a new compressor fridge that uses only low amounts of 12v electricity
- repaired shower base
- new headlights as required by the MOT
- a new left hand mirror.

He also had no damp issues in his habitation check so as a 17 year old van he is like new and after cleaning him up he is nearly ready for his travels. We will start travelling next week once we have had 2 new tyres fitted – it’s all mundane repairs and family time at the moment.
Once the work was done we went out for a day to the RSPB bird reserve Ham Wall near Glastonbury Tor. We enjoyed the walk in the countryside and saw a few birds but no booming Bitterns that we usually see here as it’s too late in the season. There were lots of brilliant butterflies. We saw the Tor in the distance from the bird hide.

Glenn went walking with Grant one morning and saw the remarkable sight above .
We have been treated to excellent dinners by Grant including tagine, chicken dhansak and fish pie. Last night Glenn and I did an Aussie barbecue. It was very warm so we enjoyed sitting outside eating Greek salad, bbq vegetables and meats from the local butcher – we were expecting a lot of leftovers – but it was hoovered up leaving very little.
Today we went out for lunch as it’s mums last day here before she flies home to Scotland tomorrow. We went to a very old thatched pub called Fisherman’s Cot next to an old bridge over the river Exe. We had a lovely table overlooking the river and had some more delicious food and drinks including local cider.

The rest of the day was spent watching Wimbledon and Tour de France – we are having a nice lazy time!
