It was another sunny and cool morning – great in a heatwave.
After getting going we drove to Torksey Quay which is a lock on the end of the Roman-dug Fossedyke where it meets the River Trent.

There is a coffee shop here so we enjoyed a flat white beside the canal watching only a paddle boarder head down the canal.

We then moved onto Idle Valley bird reserve. It was a very kids oriented reserve with kids sculptures and playgrounds. There were a lot of ducks on the lakes but no serious bird watching within 2 kilometers. There were amazing looking bramble bushes that unfortunately were not ready yet.

We didn’t hand around long until we got going to York.
We arrived at the Rowntree Campsite on the Ouse River in York at around 2pm and joined the queue to check in. We were waved in quickly and told to find a spot. I think we found the last one which actually has some shade. It’s a Saturday so the site is packed.
The Rowntree name comes from the chocolate makers who gave the whole Rowntree Patk area to York in the 1800s.
We had a quick shower and then walked down the river to George and Lechs place. We had a catch up to see the Wimbledon women’s final.
We had a good catch up and enjoyed the tennis with Noskova nearly winning at the end of the 2nd set but then lost the set after many errors. She eventually won in the 3rd.
After that excitement we enjoyed dinner of George’s very nice spicy Spanish chicken with rioja wine. The icecream for dessert was welcome after the hot day.
We then were ready to watch the World Cup England vs Norway match at 10pm. Norway scored first then England scored 1. It then went to 30 minutes extra time. I must admit I was snoozing through a lot of it. Thank goodness England scored a goal and the final score was 2-1.
After an exciting day we made our way back to the campsite at 1am.
