Kazimierz Dolny to Warsaw

We had to be out of the carpark at Kazimierz Dolny by 11am or they would charge us large amounts per hour. We decided on a quick breakfast at a cafe.

There wasn’t much open but eventually we found a very nice combined bakery and cafe.

Nice lampshades!

Our first objective was to do the gorge walk up the middle of the cemetery. We had trouble finding our way and ended up above the gorge in the cemetery. Lisa and I went down the gorge.

We met Sean and Glenn at the bottom.

Next was to walk to the huge Vistula river. We saw some tourist boats and a fisherman. There were some huge fish jumping out of the river but the fisherman was totally unsuccessful while we were there.

We checked into the tourist office to find out information on the rooster appearing everywhere. The story is:

‘Once upon a time, a devil wandering around Poland was enchanted by Kazimierz and decided to stay. He demanded to be given a black rooster every morning and the townspeople, tearing demonic retribution, acquiesced to the demand. The last of the roosters, however, managed to escape and, in order to catch it, the devil had to leave his den. The Franciscan monks seeing the den empty, sprinkled it with holy water which terrified the demon so much that he ran away and never set his foot in the town again. To commemorate this event rooster-shaped cakes are baked and sold in Kazimierz and enjoy great popularity.’

We didn’t find the cakes but we enjoyed the story.

The tourist information lady also gave us information on which easier path to use to climb up to the 3 crosses viewpoint on top of the hill. However she was totally wrong as this path was now blocked.

Glenn and I ended up going along a very narrow path to an almost vertical incline and climbed over a fence – not so gracefully!

We had left Lisa and Sean who decided against it – very wise.

The views of the town however were quite good. The crosses are thanks to god for reprieving the town from the plague.

We got back down the easier way and we were  out of the carpark by 11am.

We saw quite a lot of hop fields – just harvested and on the way to the brewery. I had to stop Glenn from following them!

We then stopped at Lidl for a big shop on the way to Warsaw. I managed to buy a new coffee plunger as my plunger cup had broken – phew!!

There was a bit of traffic on the Warsaw ring road – we avoided the Warsaw LEZ.

We arrived to nice welcome in camper park Venessa by Alexandra. It’s a very nice spot on the edge of Warsaw with good train connections into town.

We chilled out and got our laundry done.

Sean made an innovative vegetable stew with cheeses and potato pierogies.

We sat in nice covered outdoor table area with sheepskins on seats and fairy lights – it was cosy as it’s getting cold.
