Helen, Glenn and I decided to visit Cromer while George and Lech decided to meet us later at Felbrigg Estate.
We arrived in Cromer seeing the large pier and pavilion on the sea – including a major theatre on there.

Further away were fishing boats waiting to be dragged into the sea and surprising in these cold, blustery conditions a couple of surfers – brrrrrrr 🥶.

We were surrounded by Victorian terraces – many being B&Bs. The town is set up for tourists with lots of amusement arcades. We had a wander around the town.
There were very narrow lanes coming from the sea to the centre of town with lots of windows on either side. They would have been here during the original fishing village and smuggling times. They are full of little shops and cafes for tourists like us.
We continued into the centre seeing the ancient church and graveyard bang in the middle of town.
We checked out some shops conveniently having sales and made a couple of purchases.
We then headed back towards the sea and Upstairs at No1 restaurant for lunch with great views over the sea and the pier.

Helen had scampi, Glenn had fish and chips – or whale and chips!

I had excellent thai mussels from Brancaster along the coast – very plump and clean. They are hand-raked and net-harvested off the tidal flats and lays in Brancaster Bay. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.
We then moved on to Felbrigg Hall. The hall wasn’t open but the garden and tea house were.
The walled garden was spectacular with lots of colour not usually seen in October. Apparently the walls keep the plants warmer in winter and cooler during summer so making it a far more consistent temperature. We liked the pineapple gateposts.

There is an old dovecot still lived in by many pigeons and doves.

We caught up briefly with George and Lech then went for to the tea house to warm up. We went to check out what the house looks like for future reference.

We all returned home and were soon called outside by Glenn to see the sunset and get some last photos of us all together this year. Our house looks quite spectacular from outside.

We had a leftovers and cheese dinner to try to clean out the fridge on our last night.
The movie for the night was Misbehaviour – a 2020 British comedy-drama movie that tells about the women protesting during the 1970 Miss World pageant in London. The protest succeeded in widely-publicising the women’s liberation movement. The film finally notes that “Attempts to bring down the patriarchy remain ongoing.”
It was good fun – and even the boys enjoyed it too!
