Big day in York

We got up late after our big soccer night. George came to collect us later in the morning to go into the city to watch the dragon boat racing on the river.

On our way Glenn found Jeremy Clarkson and his beer that Glenn has been enjoying.

The dragon boating is a charity event where any teams can enter. There were lots of people out to watch.

We found one of the 2 local icecream boats and had to indulge in the unusual flavored home made icecream. We had rhubarb and George had lemon curd.

We walked to the bridge up the end to watch proceedings.

We then made it down past the teams all set up with pergolas and bbqs. There were many teams in costume – including pirates, Mario brothers and green or white mop heads.
As we left we found a nice wildflower meadow beside the city walls.

We then went to drop Glenn off at the York Minster for a look around – I did it last year and really was amazed. George and I went shopping so I could have a Marks and Spencer review and check out the good shoe shops here.

Here is what Glenn saw in the minster.

We then met at the Rustique French restaurant for a late lunch.

We were exceptionally boring and all had the same dishes we had last year here. I can never avoid the confit de canard.

After being totally satiated we headed back to George and Lech’s place to watch the Wimbledon men’s final between Sinner and Zverev.

Zverev did well initially winning the first set but Sinner got back to normal and cleaned up the rest. After a snack break we then caught up with the Tour de France on stage 9 – shortened slightly due to the heatwave.

We said our goodbyes until October and Glenn and I walked back to the van again alongside the river in the dark.

It’s tough keeping up with all these sporting events but glad we are in a good time zone to enjoy them.

Great pics, Laura. Rustique is my favourite Restaurant. Is Michael still the owner?
