We dropped off Gus at the garage to have his brakes fixed and then cycled into the centre of Ypres to check out the town.
Ypres was a very important cloth manufacturer from the year 1000 making it a wealthy town.
The Cloth Hall from 1200 was constructed as the main market and warehouse. It is very impressive and houses several things including the tourist office.

After checking out the options of things to do we found walking the city walls is one of the best things to do.
Ypres is not big so it was a short walk to the edge of the old town to the walls. The walls had been initially constructed in 1300 from earth with a moat. Vauban the French military architect redesigned them in the 1680s to make them far more defensive. Only half the circuit of the walls remain.

They were very pretty to us.

There was yet another military cemetery on the walls so we had to check it out.

The geese were quite happy in the moat.

Moving further on the remains of a tower were fascinating to Glenn.

There was an image of the Menin Gate during the German occupation in WWII.

We only did a portion of the walls before we had to cycle off to collect Gus.
We did stop off at Hooge Crater again to visit the grounds of a hotel that had been left as is after WWI.
There are missile cases everywhere, bunkers and trenches.

The pond is a crater from an underground bomb.

We then picked up the fixed up Gus at Garage Claus – with all the other motorhomes.

We had a nice drive south with views of huge wind turbines and police cars whizzing past with bubble lights on top.

We arrived at Floreffe near Namur in southern Belgium. At 5pm we got into the aire on the canal with only 2 spaces left. It was soon full. It’s a lovely location costing only 5 euro so it’s in demand.
We went for a walk in the small town. They had a street named Deported Street as many of their residents had been deported by Germany and then not returned in WW1.

The abbey and church at the top of the hill are impressive. This is the view looking down to where we are.

Back at the van there were lots of Canada geese going for a swim before bed.
