On our first morning of the Welsh tour by Sean it was quite warm and sunny. We were at the back of the Dunham Arms where we had a peaceful sleep after our big night in the pub having diner and playing pool.
We got on the road and our first stop was Wrexham – as in the Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mclhenny real life series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ about them buying Wrexham football club. After a few seasons there are a few people linked to the club who are big stars.

We first checked out the walls of the football stadium tiled with bricks of people who had donated to the club in 1990.

We then found the famous pub The Turf outside the stadium.

There is a lot of work being done around the ground in the off season.

The Turf was closed so we went round the corner to the shop and Players entry.

We first checked out the merchandise which was interesting but we didn’t buy anything.
I went to get a photo of the players entrance where you always see the fans hanging around to get an autograph and a player came out who said ‘Alright?’ to me – so I took the opportunity to have a chat. He was very lovely and we discussed the team’s upcoming trip to Australia- and that he had never been there – and what temperature it would be when he got there. The others joined me and we still didn’t know who this player was. We got a photo with him.

Sean asked – so who are we having the photo with? He told us he is Jay Rodrigues and a newby there since January – so we haven’t seen him in the series yet. He was originally from Burnley and then played for other teams before getting to Wrexham. He said he is now getting old for a football player – now 35. We said goodbye and wished him well for his Australia trip.
We then walked back to The Turf via some turnstiles.

Waiting for the pub to open we had some chips from the food stand outside and had a chat with the ladies about how they catered for the massive crowds of people on match day – preparation and team work apparently.

The Turf opened at 12 midday so we went in to check it out.

Wayne the publican – a star of the show was the only one on the bar. He was very happy to have a chat and discuss how he spent 2 years living in Brisbane. It sounds like he is going to Australia with the film crew in July. He invited us to have a photo behind the bar.

We got one last photo on the way back to the car.

Our next stop was Betwys y Coed after stopping for a van lunch.
We were heading into a rainstorm and got a few atmospheric shots on the way.

Betwys y Coed has many outdoor shops selling clothes at half price. I managed to find some!
It was still rainy which was a shame in such a pretty town. We checked out the waterfall.

We bought some Bara Brith – a special welsh fruit loaf for later.
We then moved on with the rain getting heavier. We drove over a high pass with a big drop on 1 side. The views were spectacular from what we could see through the rain and mist.

At last we arrived in Abersoch and drove up some narrow lanes to the small campsite we had booked. We were both on 1 pitch as there was only 1 left. However there was a double adapter on the electricity so it was not a problem.
I then got into making Goan fish with spinach and rice for dinner. It was nice and cosy in the van when the others came over.
We had another game of 5 crowns – and Lisa unbelievably came from behind and won again! She must be hiding jokers somewhere up her sleeves 😊.
