In the morning we had a wander around the town of Thungersheim and found an art exhibition on in a very old building from the 1400s. The art was a bit interesting- very blobby.

The building was more interesting.

One room was dedicated to local artist George Anton Urlaub from the 1740s who did many amazing pieces. He was from a family of painters in the town. He was a court painter in the Wurzburg Residence – here is his wall decoration.

Here are some other pieces and his art materials:

He moved to Venice to study for a while and came back to Wurzburg where he had to be made a citizen as he had so much work there. The local school is called after him.

After checking that out we walked back to the aire past the crowded swimming pool and set off for our next roadtrip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

We had a bit of difficulty finding the route at one point as we had no internet connection. After a couple of wrong turns we found the way and soon arrived at our selected campsite Camping TauberRomantik in the nearby little village of Detwang.

We got a nice spot but with little shade so we rested under the awning until the temperature was reasonable. We found a nice beer garden a short walk away so decided cooking was off and that’s what we were doing for dinner.

We found the Unter den Linden garden – which was basically a kiosk in a large garden on the river. It was nice and cool under lots of trees.

We had a couple of very cooling weisbeers.

Our bratwursts then arrived – a very German meal!

We enjoyed that and then started walking back to Gus checking out things in the way.

We then heard a huffing and puffing and on the other side of the stream saw a hot air balloon inflating. Soon it was in the air.

We continued and found some really old building .

We then found ourselves back at the campsite – and another hot air balloon in the air.

It was nice and cool by now so it was pleasant to sleep. It wasn’t long before we were in bed.

I got a very visual image when you described the ‘interesting artwork as ‘blobby’. Ha ha!
We are waiting for a ‘weather bomb’ here in Sydney. We have been warned of winds over 100 kph & huge downpours with flash flooding. Fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, you are apparently getting a heatwave. Stay cool.
