We were moving campsites today but wanted to see an interesting village on the way called Stanjel. The guidebook said it was made from cut stone.

We saw some beautiful hilltop villages on the way.

We arrived and saw the castle turrets and walls as we went up the hill.

It was very hot and we were hungry and hunting a restaurant that was open and didn’t cost us a fortune. The first restaurant had a set menu for 36 euro – a little pricey.

We continued up through the town seeing the views and the interesting church spire

Out of the whole town there was 1 other place open doing only drinks and a prosciutto and cheese plate. It sounded good to us. We enjoyed cool beers and wine. The prosciutto was excellent – from black belted pigs. The cheese was so so. It must have been top quality proscuitto as the cost for the food was 44 euro – a lot for a charcuterie plate. It was large though!

We then moved on to find the major sights in the town.

We kept climbing up to the top of the town to find the prehistoric buildings.

There was a small ruin of a hill fort with no information.

We then found the Ferrari gardens designed by a famous architect Max Fabiani. It was quite a stunning structured garden to find in such an isolated village with a pool with water lilies and great views over the valley.

We went back down through the town to get to the carpark. There was an old well and a new town plan made out of stone.

We were on the last section coming down the hill when one of my sandals broke at the front.

Thankfully we then found a little shop where we could buy some icecreams and could enjoyed them sitting there in the shade.

I managed to hobble the short distance back to the van. The road to our next campsite was quite exciting over hills with vines and many single track sections. We met a wide load at one point which took a little time to squeeze past.

We arrived at the new campsite Camp Plana and Bar 66 at Postojna. It is free form with no set pitches and we found a shady spot within reach of electricity.

It was still very hot so we went for a cool beer at the bar as soon as we had set up.

We then went back to the vans and cooked up a bbq in the cooler evening.
