We got going early and first checked out the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber established by the Celts around 0 AD. There has been a lot of fighting over the years but also wealth through crafts and trade so there are lots of defensive structures.
We loved the walkway along the top of the city walls giving us great views over the rooftops.

An MGM Grimms Brothers movie had been filmed here.

There was a huge wide tower with spiral internal rooms with cannons.

We then went inside the city walls and walked up the Main Street.

There were all sorts of interesting shops including a Christmas one in the middle of summer.

All the old buildings were amazing.

This was the gallows gate on the edge of the city.

Glenn took these ones including a stork on its nest and turtles.

We then did a bit of shopping and went into a German drinks shop – both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. It was a bit strange with all the crates. they must be big drinkers.

We bought a few bottles – not crates and fresh cherries from the farm stall and went on our way to the next stop. We needed a part to fix our fridge.
We went through the Ries meteorite crater 15 km wide with the town of Norlinger is at the middle of it. The impact was 15 million years ago. It was only recognized as a crater in 1960. The buildings in Norlinger are made with Rick containing tiny diamonds created in the impact.

We found the motorhomes repair shop which luckily specifically does the Dethleffs brand – like ours. It had a very cute dog which just wandered around looking for attention.

We were told we needed a different part from what we thought. Glenn later had an unsuccessful try to fit it as the access is too narrow from the side of the van – so we have to go back tomorrow to get them to fit it.
We parked in Aichach at an aire next to an outdoor pool – which we made use of as it was now over 30 degrees. We had a nice cool down.
After dinner we went for a walk to the old part of the town with old town gates and towers.

We thought the bike shop was very interesting with all sorts of contraptions.

Thankfully it had cooled down when we got back to the van and we had a restful night.
