We had a day in the nearby town of Izola. The town used to be an island – where the name comes from. It was originally Roman – the remains of a large harbour and villa are still visible. It was then Venetian from the 13th century and there are many obviously Venetian style buildings.
We cycled down the hill – not requiring any pedaling – and locked the bikes up on the edge of the old town.
Lisa and I liked the necklaces in the window.

We wandered the streets finding lots of interesting buildings.

We found the old church and checked out the inside. It had a Greek Orthodox mosaic dome – strange in a Catholic Church. I also liked the recreated Lourdes grotto.

We then found the Venetian detached bell tower and went to the top.

The views were spectacular.

Lisa organised an interesting photo of us all.

We checked out the ‘beach’ at the edge of town – not very comfortable concrete!

There were some unusual old boats in the marina.

It was getting warm – and we were getting hungry so we went to a nice seafood restaurant for lunch that me and Lisa had googled beforehand it wasn’t one of the glitzy ones with views of the water. It was tucked away in a corner between houses.

The food was excellent- inversely proportional to the view from the restaurant.
We then went to buy some food for dinner as we had run out and had not done a major shop recently. However we had a big hill to climb so only bought the essentials- dinner, beer and chocolate! Here are Lisa and Glenn after getting to the top of the hill – looking warm! I was probably still walking up as I was carrying a bit of shopping and had no electric propulsion.

We got back to camp and had cold showers and a rest.
It was very pleasant relaxing outside in the evening.

We played our usual 5 crowns and Glenn won unexpectedly after the usual roller coaster of clear leaders having big blow out rounds.
We all went to bed exhausted.
