We left Schongau for the longish drive to Salzburg,Austria.
We passed a commonwealth war cemetery so stopped to check it out and to find out the battles fought and nationalities buried there. It was actually WWII soldiers , mostly from the air force who had been shot down in Germany. There were mostly British but also many Australians and Canadians. There cemetery was Durnbach War Cemetery.

We had a van lunch then continued passing the huge lake the Chiemsee. It does look like a sea as it is so large. There were a lot of cars stopping to visit the lake – it looked lie a popular holiday destination.

Salzburg is on the edge of the Alps and at the start of the motorway we will take through the alps tomorrow.
We arrived in Salzburg at the big aire – the Reisemobile Stellplatz Salzburg.
It was really good – around 100 pitches – our pitch was next door to Mozart’s pitch. He was born and lived in Salzburg for most of his life.

The campsite has big new clean facilities and payment is based on trust. You fill out your own form with the number of days you are there and the number of people and total it up and leave the form and money in an envelope. It’s an unusual system but I’m sure saves a lot of effort. There is a woman there to help you if you need it.
They luckily had wifi as I was trying to get an ID for a SIM card done by talking to a person online and needed a good connection. I had struggled up until now – so I stood in the rain in the area with the strongest signal to get it done.
There were quite heavy showers going around so we settled into the van and watched Wimbledon – now that we had wifi!
