We enjoyed sleeping in a real bed on our first night in the UK. I got up slightly later than normal – 8am French time – 7am Uk time. Helen got ready and left for her early morning exercise classes.
Glenn and I had a relaxed breakfast and did some admin while Helen was away.
After a quick lunch we headed off to Hughenden Manor through the winding lanes. We came across a closed road that Google didn’t know about. We wondered if it was due to Trump being here.
When we arrived in Hughenden village we were met with cows all over the road enjoying the especially delicious grass on the edge of the road- and not moving.

It took a bit of persuasion to move them on.
We walked through the garden towards the house – there are huge trees all around.

Benjamin Disraeli owned this house in the late 1809s. He was the British prime minister in 1868 and the 1874 to 1880. He is the only Jewish born prime minister – he then converted to Anglican when he was 12.
He always had a lot of debts but married for money – and was able to buy the house to give him more credibility in his political career. Luckily he and his wife got on very well and were devoted to each other.
The gardens with the colorful flowers were amazing.

We went inside the house – it was quite comfortable with a large library. The oldest book was from the 1400s.

Disraeli had a chair with poles made in which he expected to celebrate his election as MP by being carried. However he was not elected. It took 4 times until he was – and then was in parliament ongoing after that.

After another walk around the garden we went back to Helen’s via the Waitrose supermarket to stock up. There were more road closures on the way – definitely due to Trump this time.
We then went home and made a thai red curry chicken – we were craving some spice after France. We then played Five Crowns cards with Glenn winning by too much.
