From Pula we drove west up the opposite coast – the Opatija Riviera – through the towns of Brsec, Moscenicka Draga, Lovran and Volosko.

The roads were very windy on the cliff edge up the coast but the views were spectacular.

The beaches were packed with holiday makers.

There were many gracious art deco mansions but we couldn’t stop to get a proper photo.

We intended to stop in a village to have a seafood lunch but found that none of the carparks allowed motorhomes and we were only allowed to stop in campsites. So we kept driving and only eventually found a huge space on the side of a motorway near a truck yard with a grill restaurant on the other side. We didn’t fancy the restaurant so we’re just making up some sandwiches when we got shooed off by who we presume was the owner. We managed to eat our sandwiches first though!

We soon came to our campsite for the night – Autokamp Punta Povile in the town of Povile.

You can’t book – it’s cash only and you park wherever you like – so it’s a bit random. However the setting is beautiful right on the coast with rocky and pebbly beaches.

After getting set up we went for a swim. It was very cold getting in and we found what looked like springs of cold fresh water coming up from the bottom. Further out the cold water was on top of the warmer salt water – a very strange feeling. However it was very refreshing after a long day driving.

After dinner we had a lovely sunset.

We felt very relaxed at this lovely site.
