It was a cold night but lovely morning. I got a few snaps first thing. Our boat is the Venon – named after a French town. Our route from Corbigny to Chatillon is here:

We set off around 10 after the engineer had tried to remove Oli’s CD from the sound system and failed. We were at the first lock when our instructor ran up with it. But we had no sound system. Luckily we have our speaker from the motorhome.

We had to do 24 locks today to get to Baye. Oli was driving , Angela and Glenn were on he ropes in the locks and I was generally gofer – rushing around getting what everyone needed.

There were locks people shutting and opening the locks which made it much easier.

Glenn of course got himself nice and relaxed.

We stopped for lunch at 12 – when the locks people stop. We had done 8 locks.

We had to wait for another boat coming from the other direction so we left after 2pm. We were then onto the sequence of 16 consecutive locks. I replaced Angela on the ropes and soon got the hang of it.

We passed some interesting sights.

One of the locks has a quirky shop where the others bought a beer – I had an icecream.

This is Oli’s last alcoholic beer after his driving deteriorated afterwards 😊

We continued on behind the boat with the Canadians from Quebec.

We eventually got through all of the locks and then we were in a single file narrow section which is very overgrown. Steve who we met earlier called this the Amazon. It looks amazing!

We then went into a series of 3 tunnels. The last one was 758 meters long.

We were able to appreciate the Collins profile again!

We are then in our stopping spot for the night – Baye. We found a beautiful mooring spot looking over to the Etang on the other side of the spit of land.

I had marinated some salmon so Glenn set up the bbq and we had that and bbq vegetables. It went down very well. We got some sunset shots and sat outside for some time.

We were all in our beds by 10pm after a big day.
