We started the day waiting for the tide to go out so we could walk across to the island at Cramond, just outside Edinburgh on the Forth.

Eventually it was clear and we made our way across checking out the birds as we went. There were swans, merganzer ducks, oyster catchers and a variety of other ducks.

The large obelisks on the causeway were erected during WWII when there were gun emplacements on the island and the army wanted to stop any enemy craft moving between the island and the mainland.

After about 25 minutes we arrived on the island with the large gun emplacement above us.

We walked to the top of the island getting great views up the Firth of Forth including the 3 Forth bridges.

The Forth Bridges

We then headed back as we had to get into town to meet Debbie. We parked up on Carrington Road next to Fettes school – a very expensive school where Toby Blair and his cronies went. There are lots of motorhomes there and on Fettes Avenue next to the police academy.

Debbie met us there after walking through the botanic gardens where we had originally planned to meet. We hadn’t seen Debbie for a few years so it was good to see her. But we didn’t have too long as she had to get home to get ready for the Robbie Williams concert at Murrayfield that night.

We decided to go to trendy Stockbridge for lunch. We enjoyed checking out the restaurants and shops – all very busy on a Saturday morning. We eventually found a nice cafe that had a good menu and had space for us – cafe Romina.

I had a delicious shakshuka and Glenn had a huge Scottish breakfast including haggis.

We had a great time with Debbie and too soon it was time for her to get on her way to get ready for the big concert. We said farewell until next year and went on our way to stock up on food and get back to Cramond. We found a great fish shop on the way with Arbroath Smokies that we had to have.

The Cramond carpark was packed so we waited off to the side until rain showers cleared the walkers. We took pole position with views over the beach and island.

Soon Lisa and Sean turned up in Stan 2. It was great to see them again – the last time was at Glenn’s 60th in Bundeena. They are in the replacement motorhome as their newly purchased motorhome Stan 1 is in for a suspected new gearbox – to be fixed on warranty.

We had a walk around the area and went for a welcome beer in the ancient Cramond Inn.

We then went back to the vans where we had a Scottish dinner of:

– Arbroath Smokies and oatcakes

– Scottish salmon in (not so Scottish) harissa sauce with couscous

– Scottish strawberries and yoghurt.

After we polished that off we went for a short walk to get some sunset photos.

We had a peaceful night – not too many aircraft and no crazy doughnut boys!
