We woke to brilliant sunshine at the Falkirk Wheel. It was getting busy at the visitors centre but it was still quiet where we were.

Sean had already been for his 30 mile return cycle to Linlithgow along the union canal path.
We walked to the top area of the Falkirk wheel and through the tunnel to the next set of locks. A boat was coming through. It only took 10 minutes for the water to level out at each lock.

We then took another path signposted to the Roman fort on the Antonine wall. The remainder of the path was not well signposted so with a couple of wrong turns and meeting other lost Aussies we found it.
Here’s the intro from Wikipedia:
The Antonine Wall was a turffortification on stone foundations, built by the Romans across what is now the Central Belt of Scotland, between the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth. Built some twenty years after Hadrian’s Wall to the south, and intended to supersede it, while it was garrisoned it was the northernmost frontier barrier of the Roman Empire. It spanned approximately 63 kilometres (39 miles) and was about 3 metres (10 feet) high and 5 metres (16 feet) wide.
There had been a wooden wall on the top which rotted away.
The huge ditch is the most outstanding remaining feature. The work taken to dig that out would have been enormous!
The stone foundations of the buildings in the fort is all that remains. There were many buildings including a granary, bathhouse, barracks and meeting hall. There were many explanatory plaques.

After a good look around we walked back to the campsite and after a van lunch headed off on the long trip south towards Wales.
There were good views at the border.

After a false start at the first pub stop which had a too narrow entry we found a good night spot at Dunham Arms with Chinese/thai food. The carpark was huge and we found good flat positions at the back door.
We were the only customers. We had good beers and ciders and then the 3 course dinner special of soup, mixed appetizer and main course. It was excellent!

We then went to play pool with a few more drinks. A wild night for us!
The boys won the pool this time – but not by much!
