The day was looking good when we woke and we all got ready for a walk down to the harbour at Abersoch. It is an old fishing village but is now a beach resort with many houses bought up as weekenders. The shops are quite upmarket and expensive.

It was lovely down in the village and at the bay.

The cottages in the village were quite lovely.

We then headed towards the beach where you can get surf lessons. It was quite windy so a windsurfer was the only one out. There are lots of bathing sheds.

We then walked back up to our campsite seeing a nice turf roof and an unusually tall plant.
We got going on the road as we had many places to see.
There were good views on the way with mountains always in the background.

We stopped for lunch in Borth-y-Gest another lovely bay.

After lunch we went for a walk up the coast path.
Apparently leatherback turtles up to 2 meters long come up to this bay in summer – a long distance from their usual tropical location.
There are little houses that used to accommodate pilots who helped boats navigate the treacherous sandbars.

Moving on we went through Porthmadog and we passed the Ffestiniog railway trains .

There were some nice wetlands on the other side of the railway with a slate mine in the distance.

Our next stop was Harlech with the huge castle.

There were some very narrow and steep roads around – including the steepest in the world. We didn’t take the motorhomes down there!

The statue of man and body on the horse was a bit tragic – a king returning with the body of his son from battle. I’m sure there’s been a few battles here!

We checked out the town with interesting shops.

On our way to Barmouth we stopped off to check out Shell Island in the distance where we stayed 2 years ago. It’s a huge unformed campsite next to the beach where you can camp anywhere.

Barmouth is a big holiday resort on the beach. There was lots of sand to reach the sea!

We started with a nice icecream at the Knickerbocker store. It was very blingy! I had an interesting rhubarb and custard flavour with chewy custard bits !

The boats weren’t going anywhere!

There were a couple of unusual sites on the way.

After a mooch round the shops we got back on the road, seeing the railway bridge back at Barmouth.

Sean took us across this private toll bridge for 50p.

The max weight was 2.5 tonnes and I’m sure we were more. It felt a bit rickety so we made sure there was plenty of distance between Sean and us! The toll collector at the end wasn’t too happy.
It was raining quite heavily when we pulled into the aire at Dolgellau. We had precooked it as it is only 5 spots. It was only us and another van however.
We had a lovely roast veg and fish dinner by Lisa abc we indulged in red wine to ‘wet the babies head’ of Sean’s new great nephew.
The new winner of 5 Crowns was Sean with Glenn blowing the rest of us out in the last game by laying his cards out as soon as he had been dealt his cards.
We had some very heavy rain overnight but it was clearing in the morning.
