Off to Berlin

Glenn got up early with his alarm at 6am to cycle back to the National Park to check out the birds. I got up later and enjoyed a relaxing hour catching up on blogs and reading with the view of the pond.

I heard a lot of noise like cranes and then saw some flying overhead.

Soon Glenn came back and we had breakfast and headed off. Before we knew it we went through an interesting border crossing of weaving through bollards on a bridge being looked at by a border guard and we were in Germany.

Unfortunately the main road was closed for a few kilometers due to tree lopping so we had to take rough country roads to loop around.

We did have a stoppage or 2 but we were soon in our way along fast German roads.

Soon we were in Berlin and after a stop to get cash for the campsite we were there.

We were meeting Angela from Mainz in Germany and also Lisa and Sean who had gone ahead of us by 2 days as they have to leave Berlin early. They didn’t know each other but had met up already by the time we arrived. We had a nice catch up with Angela.

The Hotel and City Camping  Nord is on a spit of land between two waterways. The campsite is very pleasant with nice new clean facilities. Angela’s room is very basic with no en-suite bathroom – but it’s very economical.

We decided to take bikes to check out Spandau and the Citadel – a fort there. Lisa and Sean didn’t join us so Angela borrowed Lisa’s bike.

We arrived at the Citadel too late to go in so cycled around the edge seeing the lock for the canal. There is a lot of water around.

We then went into the old town of Spandau which was ok with lots of shops.

A dodgy bar

We bought some ingredients for dinner then went home to cook a fish curry and dhal. We had a very pleasant evening eating and drinking outside between the 2 vans. I’m sure we didn’t get to bed until 11pm.
