It was going to be a hot day so we decided to move on and find a place to swim. 

I took a few photos around the Bialowieza site just before we left.

Someone had picked a few mushrooms. It’s a popular thing to do here – and there’s lots of them!

On the way out of town the forest was very lovely.

We decided to go to Augustov that has historic canals built in the 1800s joining several lakes together. We decided to go there and enjoy the lakes.

Driving there we saw rare cranes in a field, a windmill, storks nests and some nice churches. 

We arrived at a barrier into the Amber Bay campsite just outside Augustov. We called the number and had to wait 20 minutes to get in. A young man eventually arrived and drove us around muddy areas to 2 nice spots facing the water. 

It’s lovely – a large field next to a lake. The hotel here is closed – apparently there had been a fire some time ago. It’s looking quite delapidated now. The beach bar is also not operating as there are only 2 other occupied vans here – it’s not worth his while. It has been very busy but now it’s out of the main season. The young chap seems to be the only one looking after anything here. 

We had lunch and then went for a swim. The water was clear and cool but after inching in we eventually managed to have a very short swim. 

We lay on the grass and read our books beside the water.

There were a few noisy boats but they were not a problem. 

Sean made hamburgers on the bbq. We had dinner outside beside the vans  – it was warm after the wind died down. 

After dinner we tidied everything up and put it away as rain is coming tonight.
