We got up early and went to the swimming pool with Angela. It was a nice pool but quite busy with swimmers in the lanes. 

We did quite a few laps then headed home via the bread shop to pick up fresh rolls. 

We had a leisurely breakfast then headed into the centre of town doing a bit of shopping on the way to the movies. We saw the new film The Odyssey filmed partly in Scotland around Buckie and Nairn. It was quite an epic being 3 hours long – but very gripping. 
We walked through the old part of Mainz in the way home.

In the evening we went out to a lovely restaurant on the edge of the Rhine River. The river is shockingly low at the moment and is not passable by boats further up so many are stuck here.

Glenn and I had Currywurst – sausage in curry sauce- and a traditional beef in onion sauce. It was very good.

We went for a short walk after dinner.

We then headed home for bed.

Next day we went for a walk early through the forest and past the animal park. We bought food out of the vending machine to feed the animals. 

First were deer and goats. The goats were very bossy pushing the others aside. 

Then there were chickens, stoats, Guinea pigs and other local small animals.

We then went home – again via a bread shop. 

After breakfast we went to the Wiesbaden art nouveau museum on the other side of the river. Art nouveau originated in Great Britain as the Arts and Crafts Movement, as a direct response to the qualitative decline in craftsmanship in the wake of industrialization. It was known in France and Belgium as Art Nouveau, in Vienna as Secession style, and in Spain as Modernismo.

The inside of the tower was very impressively decorated.

In the museum was a lot of glass art by Emile Galle from Nancy not far away in France.

There was a lot of beautiful engraved furniture.

There were many Tiffany glass pieces. I wouldn’t mind one of these lamps at home!

We found the Ophelia painting made famous by Taylor Swift in her video.

Angela made a good imitation later at the setup spot outside. This area had been mobbed by Swifties when the video came out.

There was an exhibition on animals and their various skills like colour variation and merging into the background.

The hedgehog was a bit of a joke.

The last exhibition was George Lurig an artist from Dresden who painted friezes for major buildings there. Unfortunately all the building were destroyed in WWII but his designs still exist. The friezes were recreated digitally piecing together his designs.

After all that we went home to Angela’s. She was meeting Oli at a birthday party.

Glenn and I went out for dinner to the local beer garden. 

We enjoyed 2 large schnitzels and salad with beer. It was a good solid German meal.

The next morning it was raining when we woke up. It hasn’t rained properly for weeks here.

Later we said our goodbyes to Ange and Oli and drove to Nürburgring, the historic race track in Germany.
