The day was looking much brighter and we were looking forward to our day’s trip down to Glencoe.
We said goodbye to Brendan and his Dutch friend Mellor and headed off.

On the way out we bought some of Brendan’s eggs – it’s an honesty box at the gate. It’s a nicely painted caravan for the opening of the aire on Monday.

We set off in bright sunshine and went down single track roads to Plockton – famous from old TV series Hamish Macbeth with highland cows walking up the street.
The views across the bay from the Main Street are lovely. We were lucky that a craft fair was on with locals selling their produce – jams, knitted items and wool, wooden items, jewellery etc. I bought some interesting spiced rhubarb chutney to go with curries.

After a few photos we went on our way. Back on the main road south there was a traffic warning sign – the road was closed further on due to an accident. However we found a good stop at Eilean Donan Castle to have some lunch in the vans.
A couple in a camper van next to us with recalcitrant toddlers decided to head off and took my number so they could send updates on the traffic. It was handy as they joined a 20 mile queue. Traffic Scotland was indicating no opening soon.
So we decided to go and get our washing done at the community facility at Kyle of Lochalsh. We were able to park the vans outside the Hotel Lochalsh at the Harbour as it was currently closed.

We saw some jellyfish being washing in.

We got the washing done by competing with others to grab the washing machines then tumble dryers immediately when they became available. This meant a bit of hanging around.
There was still no timing of the road opening at 5pm so we decided to have an early dinner of fish and chips before the shop shut at 6pm then go for a walk and perhaps a pub in town. The fish and chips was excellent – I had the special of monkfish scampi with salad and chips with 5 large chunks of fish and a nice chopped salad with grapes. It hit the spot. We then went for a walk at the community park – the Plock. It was very green with views over the Skye bridge.

A local cat looked very comfortable on an old yacht.

We arrived downtown but there were no good drinking spots so we headed back to the van for a nightcap of gin and tonic. Lisa’s purchase of Orkney gin at the Kyle coop was an excellent decision.
We then went to bed still beside the harbour at Lochalsh Hotel – a very peaceful spot.
