This is our last full day in Athens so we had to mop up anything we hadn’t seen yet.
We left the Plaka for the first time and saw this little church preserved under this large hotel – a little odd.

We walked up to Syntagma Square and had a wander around the National Gardens – a very large botanical garden in the middle of the city.
Glenn chased the birds around. Here’s what he found

I went to the Presidential Palace just outside the gardens to check out the changing of the guard Greek style.

It looks like a workout in itself.
Back in the gardens we then checked out the wildlife.
The turtles were comical climbing all over each other.

We then went to the Olympic stadium built for the first modern Olympics in 1896. It is in the style of the ancient stadiums.

It was very hot by now so we decided not to go in where there was no shade but got a few photos.
We went back through the gardens to the hotel picking up a traditional spinach and feta pastry for lunch – it seemed to be a popular choice.
We had a quiet afternoon in the aircon and then went out for drinks and dinner with Paulette and Mike.
We had a lovely fish dinner – a nice change from lots of meat! I had smoked trout and mussels with white wine – all top quality.
We were enjoying the white wine so continued to another bar to try some more. We didn’t stay out too late as we were leaving very early next morning.
