I was still in bed while Glenn was birdwatching from the van through the top window.

We went for a quick walk along the Napoleon path and checked out the view. We saw the old tram again.

A 2445 km walk through the alps to Monaco starts here.

We left Trieste to drive back to Slovenia – a 35km trip.
Before we left Italy we wanted to get some shopping as all shops are closed on Sundays in Slovenia. We had decided on a shopping centre with a decathlon store so we could get some things we needed for the bikes. We arrived there and found that the maximum height to get in the undercover garage was 2.1m – too low for us. We eventually found 4 spots for motorhomes – all occupied and 2 with cars in them so we couldn’t park anywhere. We continued on our way.
It was 1 km to the border where we went through in single file so that customs officers could have a look at you – we were waved through.
We then arrived in Izola about 10 minutes later. The beach carparks were full so we found a park at the closed supermarket – not many cars there!
We did a walk to check out the Roman Harbour and villa.
The first thing we saw was the little train.

We then saw the biggest bumble bee ever on a beautiful flower. You can see it’s yellow head covered in pollen.

We found the Roman remains of the villa and the Harbour – with a Slovenian chap leaning against the information board.

We had a nice chat with him and his wife and friend who recommended places to see in Slovenia.
There wasn’t much left of the ruins of the villa. We could see bits of Roman concrete in the water.

We then continued along the path seeing lots of Slovenians sunbathing and in the water. We did a little paddle to find the water was very warm.
We found a gelato shop and had an interesting blueberry gelato – 2 huge cones for only 3.5 euro for 2.
We then headed back to the van and had a quick lunch then drove the 5 minutes up to the hotel to check in for the campsite. Lisa and Sean were already there so we got all the details and were allocated 2 pitches with good shade and an amazing view.

Lisa did a washing in the facilities right next to us – and then fought with the washing machine that wouldn’t give the clothes back. After waiting ages for the maintenance man to show up we headed off to the beach.
We walked the 15 minutes down the hill to the public beach. We enjoyed a nice swim in the balmy waters with a view of the old town.

We then had a warm beer at the beach cafe – expensive for being served badly.
We then caught the free shuttle back up the hill – thank goodness – squeezing in a queue jumpers got in first.
We then had a nice dinner of large raviolis bought in Italy – these were the last of our dinner supplies.
It had cooled down after a very hot day and I was tired so I was the first one in bed.
All of us were woken around 1am by French teenagers congregating at the toilet area. Luckily I got back to sleep quickly. Unfortunately the others didn’t ☹️. We need to make sure that doesn’t happen again!
